It is our pleasure to invite you to the first International Meeting on “Social and Arts Prescribing in Health Care”, which will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece in October 10-13th 2024.
Despite the abundance of evidence on the healing powers of different forms of art, national healthcare systems have not yet been able to capitalize on cultural heritage and art products in order to improve quality of care, and disease management. There in an increasing need for evidence-based guidelines on what types of art programs benefit which patient groups and in what way.
The meeting will bring together for the first time health professionals, health care policy makers, and representatives from the art world, artists and arts management, in an attempt to
- Profile existing practices of successful arts prescribing in healthcare.
- Present evidence on the impact of arts prescribing on specific health issues and medical conditions
- Discuss guidelines on arts prescribing implementation within Europe.
Greece is among the first countries within the EU to include Arts Prescribing among the national medical prescribing system from 2025. However, similarly to other countries in order for the initiative to succeed we need to enhance communication between the medical and the arts world and combine the experience of arts, with evidence based guidelines on what works and what doesn’t.
Proceedings of the meeting will be published in a special issue of Frontiers in Psychology(IF:4.322)
The meeting will have an interactive format, and will take place every day in a different cultural venue of Thessaloniki, combining work, with a rich cultural experience.
Looking forward to welcoming you in Thessaloniki, in October 2024!
Collegiate Regards
Efharis Panagopoulou
